Instructions to Break Up a Large File into Multiple Smaller Files Using 7-Zip
Step 1: Install 7-Zip
Download and install 7-Zip from the official website.
Ensure 7-Zip is installed and accessible from your system.
Step 2: Locate the File to Split
Navigate to the location of the large file you want to split.
Right-click on the file and hover over 7-Zip in the context menu.
Step 3: Set Up the Split Operation
Select Add to Archive... from the 7-Zip menu.
In the Add to Archive window:
Archive Format: Choose 7z (default) or another format like zip if compatibility is needed.
Compression Level: Choose a compression level (e.g., Normal, Ultra). Higher compression reduces file size but takes longer.
Split to Volumes, Bytes:
Specify the size of each split part (e.g., 100M for 100 MB, 1G for 1 GB).
Enter the size directly or choose from the dropdown options.
Step 4: Execute the Split
Click OK to start the process.
7-Zip creates multiple files with the same base name as the original file, followed by .001, .002, etc., indicating their sequence.
Step 5: Verify the Split Files
Confirm the split files are created in the target directory.
If needed, test the split files:
Select the first part (e.g., .001 file), right-click, and choose Test Archive from the 7-Zip menu.
