Maintenance Operations Management in ISA-95

Sepasoft Modules for Maintenance Operations

Today, Sepasoft's MES solution provides the ability for combining maintenance operations and production scheduling all in one system, allowing for easy visual communication between departments. Ensuring only certified personnel can accomplish certain tasks can be handled through the Track & Trace production control feature, and the OEE Downtime Module provides MTBF metrics as well as downtime tracking and Pareto analysis.

How to create and schedule a maintenance operation in MES 3.0 and MES 4.0

To create and schedule a maintenance operation:

  1. Create a Process Segment: Use the MES Object Editor to create a Process Segment, naming it "Maintenance" (or similar). Set its EquipmentReference to the desired equipment or class. Save and select "Yes" when prompted to create an Operation for this Process Segment.

  2. Configure Operation Details: Within the MES Object Editor, access the Segment Operations. Edit the "Operation Definition" and save. Then, in the "Operation Segment," select the equipment the operation will run on, ensuring the correct "Mode" (e.g., Maintenance) is selected.

  3. Automatic Start (Optional): If you want the operation to start automatically on schedule, ensure the "Trigger Begin" is set to "Auto". Otherwise, you'll manually begin it from the MES Schedule Selector.

  4. Schedule the Operation: Use the MES Schedule View component. Right-click on a production item, select "New Entry," choose <none> for Work Order, and your maintenance operation name for "Operation." Manually enter the duration.

Maintenance operations can also be created and scheduled via scripting, allowing for custom properties to store additional information like maintenance order numbers or technicians.
